Network-Level Simulation Results of Fair Channel-Dependent Scheduling in Enhanced UMTS

چکیده

In this paper, previously performed UMTS studies have been extended to enhanced UMTS, and combined with several scheduling algorithms (ref. [1,2]). Scheduling algorithms for W-CDMA systems ranging from C/I based scheduling to Round-Robin scheduling are presented and discussed. We also include a trade-off between these two extreme methods of scheduling: Fair channel-dependent scheduling. All these scheduling algorithms have been implemented in a network simulator in ns-2, employing input trace files of SNRs, modeled from link-level simulation results. The network-level simulation results indeed display that the advantages of both extremes in scheduling algorithms have been combined in the new algorithm: a good fairness, comparable to that of Round-Robin scheduling, together with an efficient use of resources, as seen in C/I based scheduling.

Improving Throughput and Fairness on the Downlink Shared Channel in UMTS WCDMA Networks

A resource scheduling scheme is presented to improve throughput and fairness for NRT packet data traffic on the downlink shared channel of a UMTS WCDMA network supporting multiple services. The proposed Fair Resource Scheduling (FRS) scheme takes into account link conditions to enhance throughput and provides fair resource sharing among traffic flows. FRS includes service priority handling duri...

Packet scheduling for the delivery of multicast and broadcast services over S-UMTS

We investigate the packet-scheduling function within the access scheme of a unidirectional satellite system providing point-to-multipoint services to mobile users. The satellite system may be regarded as an overlay multicast/broadcast layer complementing the point-to-point third generation (3G) mobile terrestrial networks. The satellite access scheme features maximum commonalties with the frequ...

Analysis of packet scheduling for UMTS EUL - design decisions and performance evaluation

The UMTS Enhanced Uplink (EUL) provides higher capacity, increased data rates and smaller latency on the communication link from users towards the network. In this paper we present a performance comparison of three distinct EUL scheduling schemes (one-by-one, partial parallel and full parallel) taking into account both the packet level characteristics and the flow level dynamics due to the (ran...

A Multi-hop Aware Scheduling Mechanism for HSDPA and IEEE 802.11 Integrated Network

Nowadays, there are lots of demands by Internet applications (e.g. IP based multimedia applications). For higher data rate, there exist two technologies: the third generation (3G) cellular mobile networks and the wireless local area networks (WLAN) technology have big distinctions, which can meet different users’ demands of accessing the Internet. For the 3G cellular networks technology, one of...

A Fair Scheduling using Spectrum Load Smoothing Algorithm for Mesh Networks

Fair distributed scheduling is always a big challenge issue in wireless mesh networks. In this work we focus on the IEEE 802.11s proposal by the Mesh Network Alliance (MNA) which aims to enhance the legacy 802.11 medium access protocol to enable efficient mesh operation. We propose an Enhanced Distributed Reservation Protocol (EDRP) to achieve fair scheduling in wireless mesh networks. Our prot...
